PMG CEO Jason Elias seals the deal on buying the latest equipment

Wetherill Park based Precision Metal Group is stepping up its involvement in providing equipment for the Australian Defence Force in a big way.

Currently involved in delivering the first 25 of 211 new Boxer 8×8 CRVs to the Australian Army, a delegation from PMG also recently returned from a European trip, where invaluable contacts were made and knowledge developed.

Chief Executive Officer Jason Elias said the group had met with companies currently delivering to defence forces internationally to gain an understanding of the growth and changes required to better Australian manufacturing and support the defence spend in Australia.

“Under the AIC plan for Australia many small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) will need to learn and understand the nature of the defence business and adopt it in Australia to be successful moving forward,” Mr Elias said.

First stop on the trip was Hamburg, Germany, where PMG visited Amco Metal Services, collaborating on specialist materials for the Australian Defence Force.

London, England, was the next leg of the trip, where PMG met with members of the defence force at Australia House and gained valuable information at the Defence and Security Equipment International conference.

“The conference was a great success for PMG as we were able to meet with many international companies and actually signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two of these companies,” Mr Elias said.

Then it was back to Germany, where the group was able to collaborate and build knowledge on shipbuilding for the Australian market,

“A visit to the EMO trade fair also proved productive with PMG ordering new machines, shifting the company into industry 4.0 technology, from the Australian machinery supplier Hare and Forbes,” Mr Elias said.

“The trip has allowed us to partner with many leading companies and increase Australian content to current contracts within the defence force field.

“Among those we met with were EMCO material supplier, Rheinmetall Prime and manufacturers who deliver to them and ship builders.

“We signed off on a MOU with Probatec, which will mean PMG will manufacture armoured vehicle seating for Australian defence in Australia using Australian steel and labour.”
